The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging the government to strengthen the personal safety and security of women in the country.

In a statement to commemorate International Women’s Day Thursday, the opposition party has commended the global efforts by women to “pull down all barriers impeding the progress to greater equality in all spheres of life.”

The statement signed by National Women’s Organiser, Hajia Zeynab Mahama, said: “Women can no longer be relegated to the background in influencing the change necessary to the status of women globally. Impediments and all barriers to the rise of women to the top of the leadership strata must be accelerated!”

National Democratic Congress Solidarity Message On International Women's Day - 8th March 2018

-------------------------------------

On the occasion of the celebration of International Women's Day, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes women globally, and Ghanaian women in particular, very best wishes and salutations on the sustained global efforts by women to pull down all barriers impeding the progress to greater equality in all spheres of life.

In Ghana, the NDC has encouraged; and continues to encourage more to be done by government and its law enforcers to strengthen the personal safety and security of women in the country.

Childhood marriages must be fought with lots of zeal; Trafficking in women and children must be prosecuted with speed; equal pay for women  must be a necessity; succession rights for women in cases of intestate succession must be enforced; equitable distribution of property on dissolution of marriage - legislated upon; sexual assault and harassment must result in the meting out of stiffer punishment.

Women can no longer be relegated to the background in influencing the change necessary to the status of women globally. Impediments and all barriers to the rise of women to the top of the leadership strata must be accelerated!

Congratulations to all women on their determination to realising the goals for achieving gender parity NOW; the NDC endorses the theme for the 2018 celebration themed #push for progress year.
