Deal secured for construction of West Africa’s first vaccine factory in Ghana

Ghana is on course to becoming the first country in the West African sub-region to get a vaccine manufacturing factory.

German company, Merck KGaA, and Ridge Management on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of the factory.

The deal follows discussions between Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Brigitte Zypries, and a large business delegation who accompanied the German President, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier on a three-day visit to Ghana.


Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who witnessed the signing of the MoU lauded deal.

There will also be another MoU for the construction of a renewable energy plant.

The is between Siemens AG and Rotan Energy Pte for the construction of 330mw gas-fired combined cycle power plant for Ghana.

Dr Bawumia who shared pictures of the signing ceremony on Facebook added that the energy project is “projected to be the cheapest on the market and when integrated into our national grid, would significantly reduce the cost of electricity”.
