The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) says rapper Emmanuel Botwe, better known as Kwaw Kesse, will receive his royalties once he re- registers with the new music rights body.
Reacting to Kwaw Kese’s claim that he has not received his royalties for the past 15 years, the music rights body explained that the rapper failed to register under the new administration.
Kwaw Kese speaking in an interview on the Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM with Doreen Andoh, revealed that he hasn’t received any royalty from GHAMRO.
He added there was a physical altercation between the music rights body and his management the last time the tried to request for his royalties.
Prince Tsegah, Public Relations Officer of GHAMRO speaking in an interview with Hitz FM’s Nana Kwame Larbi stated that, the rapper will receive his royalties as soon as he registers.
“I believe that Kwaw Kese has not received royalties simply because he did not re-register under the new dispensation of Kojo Antwi but as it stands now, Kwaw Kese is a known name in the industry so anytime he comes to GHAMRO to pick a form to register, he will receive his royalties,” he said.
Mr Tsegah, who hosts “U Sey Wetin” on Hitz FM, added that after Kojo Antwi took over from his predecessor Carlos Sekyi, steps were taken re-register members.
“When Kojo Antwi took over from the interim board of Carlos Sekyi, his administration noticed that there were a lot of 'Ghost names' on the royalty payroll. So, in order to get rid of these 'Ghost names' they asked members to re-register.”
